In the Night Kitchen
By Maurice Sendak
Challenged in the Elk River, MN schools in 1992 because reading the book “could lay the foundation for future use of pornography.” Also challenged in the El Paso, TX libraries in 1994 because “the little boy has no clothes on and pictured his private area.”
During the night, a little boy escapes his room to the place where he can see his dreams being made. During the process he must leave everything from the real world behind, including his clothes.
Some people are not comfortable viewing the human form without clothing. They do not appreciate books, especially one for children, that show a human naked. These people often label these images as pornography despite the lack of sexual content, and they tend to seek to have these books removed.
